Inis Meain Linen Pub Jacket - Natural
The iconic Inis Meáin Pub Jacket. Created over 30 years ago, this cardigan is the perfect expression of laid-back elegance and usability. Relaxed, yet oh-so presentable. Knitted in unwashed linen to maintain the integrity of the crisp fiber.
Inis Meáin is one of the three Aran Islands in Galway Bay off the western shore of Ireland - the name means "middle island" in Irish. It is a place of rugged beauty and strong constitutions, with a population of less than 200 people. For centuries, the women of the island have designed, knitted and woven fishermen's sweaters.
Husband and wife team Tarlach de Blácam and Áine Ní Chonghaile (an Inis Meáin native) founded the Inis Meáin Knitting Company in 1976. It integrated a series of development projects aimed at stemming the tide of emigration and providing the permanent work needed to support a sustainable community on the island, such as the provision of electricity and running water.
Today, Inis Meáin is sought-after for its hand-finished knitwear in the finest yarns. Like all Inis Meáin's work, this Pub Jacket is packed with character, a reflection of the place and its artisans.
